AV Room – Dave Bolton’s Cancer Journey with the National Lottery
Dave’s story is nothing short of miraculous. In 2015, he faced a grim diagnosis of stage 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), an incurable brain cancer, with a prognosis of just months to live. Yet, Dave, a former world kickboxing champion, refused to surrender to despair, embarking on an arduous path of surgeries, chemotherapy, and seizures.
Despite enduring tremendous personal loss and the end of his police career, Dave’s determination led to lifestyle changes that defied the odds. His tenacity resulted in shrinking the tumour, making him one of the top two percent of GBM survivors, living with terminal cancer for over nine years.
Dave’s journey inspired the creation of the ‘Ahead of the Game Foundation’ in partnership with former Liverpool footballer Dominic Matteo. This non-profit organisation offers holistic rehabilitation services, addressing medical, physical, mental, and financial aspects of cancer.
Dave, now a cancer rehabilitation specialist coach, extends hope and practical support to others facing similar challenges. His mission is to show that even in adversity, life can be embraced anew.
AV Room, through their dedicated efforts, captured and shared this inspiring journey. Dave’s story reached wide audiences, garnering coverage in BBC North West Tonight, Granada Reports, BBC Merseyside, and various online media outlets.
