Sky News Names Kay Burley Replacements
Sky News has confirmed that Sophy Ridge and Wilfred Frost will take over as presenters of its breakfast programme following Kay Burley’s departure earlier this year. The pair will front a reimagined breakfast format, set to launch in the Autumn, complete with a new name and studio that will be revealed in the coming months.
Ridge is a familiar face to Sky News viewers, having hosted The Politics Hub for the past two years and Sophy Ridge on Sunday. She was named Presenter of the Year at the RTS Television Journalism Awards and played a key role in the channel’s coverage of last year’s UK election.
Frost, who has been presenting the breakfast slot since Burley’s exit, brings experience from his work with US broadcasters CNBC and NBC. The son of legendary interviewer Sir David Frost, he recently produced the documentary series David Frost Vs….
Kay Burley announced her retirement from the Sky News breakfast programme in February after an extraordinary run with the network that began in 1989. In her farewell episode, she reflected on decades of major news coverage and spoke about her plans to pursue other passions, including travel.
The appointment of Ridge and Frost marks a significant shift for Sky News as it looks to refresh its morning coverage and engage viewers with a new approach. The combination of Ridge’s political insight and Frost’s international broadcasting experience signals a breakfast programme that aims to be both authoritative and wide-reaching in scope.
